Most of us don't think twice about what - or rather, who - keeps everything running smoothly. Behind the screens.
The ones who spend hours maintaining the systems. The networks. The infrastructure.
Until something goes wrong.
For Mubashir Ali Khan, our Head of Global Networks at ibex. Pakistan, things going wrong isn't something that can be left to chance.
Because in his world, the "core" isn't just another piece of technology. It's the very heartbeat that keeps everything running.
So, when an opportunity arose, he took matters into his own hands.
A few years back, Mubashir and his team successfully executed a major implementation of the Core Switch and Avaya platform in Nicaragua. Now, it all sounds a bit technical (and it is), but for the sake of simplifying stuff, think of the core switch as the heart of an entire IT infrastructure.
And just like the human heart, without it the body can shut down.
The team identified critical gaps in the existing setup, including the urgent need to replace an obsolete core switch in Hampton, Virginia. The goal was clear: to build a system that was strong, reliable, and that would be able to support the rapidly growing demands of the business.
No downtime. No risks. No compromises.
What followed was weeks of planning, problem-solving, and precision.
The solution that they came up with? Implementing a Cisco Nexus Switch, one of the most advanced systems in the market at that time. And not only did it deliver high performance, but it also enabled us to have a backup system in case anything went wrong.
That was like having two hearts instead of one! If one fails, the other takes over smoothly.
What made this achievement even more impressive was that this technology was still relatively new and complex a few years ago. Getting it right on the first attempt wasn't just difficult, it was quite rare.
And yet, Mubashir and his team made it happen.
They were even recognized by the CIO of ibex. Pakistan. To quote:
"You have done an amazing job in Nicaragua on the core network! Some of the best work I've seen. Well done!"
- Paul Williams, Chief Information Officer, ibex. US
Behind the scenes, away from the spotlight, this is the kind of work that keeps everything running consistently. Because sometimes, the most important contributions are the ones you don't see, but always depend on.
And this was one of them.
